About this Site

My name is Malcolm Robinson.

I am a Futures Trader and have been since 1992. All the opinions expressed on this site are mine, they are intended to offer insight and new perspectives on trading.

Low Risk High Probability Set-Ups
I spent the first 6 years of my trading career as a floor trader on LIFFE, and as a screen trader since 1998. I have learnt the hard way what works and what doesn't. My trading method is not dependent on a myriad of technical indicators; it is based on the true market fundamentals of price and volume.

Pit Trader
As a floor trader I had a very interesting and unique perspective. It did not take me long to realise that the market would move in the same direction as the dominant orders coming into the pit. So if there were more buy orders flowing in, the market would move up; and if there were more sell orders, the market would move down. It did not matter what preempted those orders (whether fundamental or technical factors); from the perspective of a pit trader trying to make a profit, all that mattered was whether there were more buy orders or sell orders coming into the pit.

Order Flow
This seems obvious, I am sure, but it is in fact quite profound. When you realise that the most important factor in determining the direction of the market is order flow; you realise that it is by observing order flow that you will have the tightest grasp on which direction the market will move.

Having an Edge in Trading

In a coin flipping game you know that there is a 50:50 chance that the coin will land heads up or tails up, so it doesn't matter whether you bet heads or tails. If, though, the coin had been tampered with and rebalanced so that . . . keep reading
What I learnt losing £60,000 my first year as a full-time trader
Malcolm Robinson
During my first year as a local (independent trader) on the floor of LIFFE, I bought and sold 8804 FTSE futures contracts, about 40 contracts per day on average. The result was a loss of £61,620 or -£267 per trading day. I was profitable on 55% of days with an . . . keep reading
How to Spot Turning Points in the Futures Market
Malcolm Robinson
I have been a full-time professional trader since 1992. I started out as a local (independent floor trader) on LIFFE, the London Futures exchange. When I first started out on the floor I was in a sea of confusion. Everything I did seemed to be wrong, the more . . . keep reading
How To Lose Money

I read somewhere that when Michael Jordan was making an advert that required him to miss the basketball hoop a number of times; he just couldn't do it, he couldn't not get the ball in the hoop. I have for a long time thought that it would make an interesting futures . . . keep reading
Responsibility in Trading
Malcolm Robinson
An email in response to my last article prompted me to consider the significance of taking responsibility in trading. There is a natural tendency for most people, in any area of life, to not take responsibility for results and behaviours that appear negative. We want to see ourselves in a good light . . . keep reading
